Certain teams within a company—typically offering some form of service—may suffer from a silo mentality.
Signs of silo mentality sufferers:
- Showing little or no consideration for overall business value
- They just say “no” to any non-standard requests that arrive without offering alternative routes or solutions
- When confronted, they’ll rarely admit to having this attitude
Although this kind of behavior can be seen anywhere within a company, the gate-keeping role is often assigned to the security department. Their role is certainly very challenging and important—especially in the face of the ever-growing potential risks—but their service can sometimes end up seriously undermining business goals. The security department, or any other gatekeeper for that matter, should be enabling the business departments to achieve their goals instead.
In fact, the security needs to be measured not only on how many risks they have mitigated, but also on the level of their internal customers’ satisfaction.
